The off-season is officially under way, and the Mets are starting it with some formalities. They recently picked up Mike Pelfrey's $500,000 option for next season, which was a no-brainer. He'll be under the Mets' control for the next 4 seasons.
The team declined J.J. Putz's $9.1 millon option for 2010, opting to buy him out for $1 million. Putz will test the market, but could end up back with the Mets on an incentive-laden deal.
So far, Carlos Delgado, Brian Schneider, Alex Cora, and Ramon Martinez have filed for free agency.
