The Mets were destroyed by the Dodgers 11-2 on Thursday night at Citi Field. Here is a quick recap of the night's game. More tomorrow morning...-The Livan Hernandez Experiment appears to be reaching its an inevitable conclusion. Hernandez (5-5) let up 11 hits and 8 runs over four innings of work. In his past two starts Livan has surrendered 21 hits and 15 runs in 7 innings of work. Yuck.
-Why was Daniel Murphy not in tonight's lineup? Jerry Manuel always talks about rewarding guys with more playing time after an impressive performance. After a two-hit, web gem performance Wednesday, Murphy was reduced to a pinch-hitting role tonight. I know the Mets faced a lefty but you need to put Murph at first and leave him alone. It's that simple.
-I have not heard a Met crowd as dead as tonight's was since the final days of the Art Howe era. It was really sad.
-The Mets have not hit a home run in 58 innings.
-With Omar Minaya promising absolutely no outside help, it appears the Mets season may be over by July 31st. Sad but true. If the Mets are 7 or more games out at the end of the month, and Beltran-Reyes-Delgado are not back, do the Mets become sellers? (I'd trade anyone not named Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Santana, K-Rod, and I guess Pelfrey) Deal with those guys in the off-seeason.
-Watching this team struggle leaves you with such a helpless feeling. I hate it. Summer simply isn't as fun when your baseball team sucks (for lack of a better word).
